Academics
- Benefits to Students
- Library Privileges
Undergraduates in the Honors Program receive the same library privileges as graduate students. Babbidge Library provides most undergraduate students with two-week loans for library material; Honors students receive six-month loan periods for most books and are not bound by a borrowing limit. It's also important to note that although items may be checked out for 180-days they are recallable if another borrower needs something. All recalled items MUST be returned by the recall due date specified in the recall notice. Some of the items that are not included in the six-month loan period are items from the Leisure Reading collection (30-day loan to everyone) and video cassette tapes and DVDs (7-day loan for everyone).
To activate these privileges, students must go to the Information/Circulation Desk on the Plaza Level of the library before checking out books to make sure they are registered as an Honors student. Senior Honors students working on theses are eligible to apply for a research carrel by following the process outlined on the Library's web site: http://www.lib.uconn.edu/about/rooms/carrels.html
- Priority Registration
Honors students register for classes before other students with the same credit standing. Registering at the head of the students with your class standing helps you get the courses you want.
- Enrollment Limits
In all schools and colleges, except Engineering, Fine Arts, and Pharmacy, a student in the Honors Program who has, or will have earned a minimum of 18 credits at the time of enrollment may register for or be enrolled in a maximum of (19) credits unless he or she is a junior or senior and has earned a grade point average of at least 3.0 for the last semester for which grades are available, in which case the maximum number of credits shall be (21).
For all Engineering, Fine Arts, and Pharmacy students the maximum number of credits students may take per semester is (19). If 5th semester or above and earned a 2.6 SGPA or above the previous semester the maximum is (21).
All students who would like to register for more than the maximum credits listed above must obtain permission from the student's advisor and academic dean.
