Electronic Thesis Submission Program
DigitalCommons@UConn is an institutional repository for the University of Connecticut, managed by the UConn Libraries. An institutional repository is a digital storage site for the intellectual output of an institution. It can include theses, articles, conference proceedings, working papers, audio and video files, presentations, etc.
- Submitting Your Thesis Electronically
- Why use DigitalCommons@UConn?
Your thesis is a significant intellectual achievement. By placing it in our repository, you will be making it available for the world to see. Similar programs at other schools have seen high levels of use of student theses. After graduation, whether you are applying to graduate school or for a job, your efforts will be assisted by the ability to show your thesis, located in the University's repository. And your efforts will be enhanced if you can not only show your work, but say it has been downloaded 25, or 50, or 100 times (usage statistics are available upon request). This can help you begin to establish a reputation in your chosen field. In addition, DigitalCommons@UConn will ensure the preservation of your thesis, and guarantee that the URL for your document will never change!
- What if I am submitting my work for publication elsewhere?
If you are intending to publish your thesis in a scholarly journal you should check with your faculty thesis advisor prior to submitting your thesis to Digital Commons.
The majority of publishers will allow posting of “preprints” like your thesis to an institutional repository like DigitalCommons@UConn. Check the website SHERPA (http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo.php) to view publisher policies.
You may also choose to delay submission of your thesis to Digital Commons until after your work has been accepted for publication.
Once you have submitted a hard copy of your thesis with a signed approval form to the Honors Program Office ( CUE Rm. 419), then you may submit your thesis electronically to honors@uconn.edu.
Once approved by your advisor(s), you will send an electronic file as an email attachment to the Honors Program office (honors@uconn.edu). You will also need to include in your email the following information:
- Your name
- Your major
- The title of your thesis
- The name of your thesis advisor
- Your graduation date
- An abstract
- 3-5 keywords that you feel best describe the subject matter of your thesis.
Read this statement, “I hold the copyright to this document and grant permission for posting it in the DigitalCommons@UConn institutional repository, or have the approval of the copyright holder to do so, and agree that it may be made available to the public in any format in perpetuity. I warrant that the posting of the work does not infringe any copyright, nor violate any proprietary rights, nor contain any libelous matter, nor invade the privacy of any person or third party, nor otherwise violate Repository policies.” By continuing with the submission process, you are agreeing to the above terms. You will still be required to submit a hard copy of your thesis with a signed approval form to the Honors Program.
All approved University and Honors Scholars, who are planning to graduate in May, August or December 2008 are eligible to participate in this Program. The Honors Program will submit any approved Honors thesis to Digital Commons, the institutional repository.
Indicate your interest by sending an e-mail with thesis attached to honors@uconn.edu.
- Gift Certificates!
The first ten students to submit a hard copy of the approved Honors thesis, the thesis approval form, and an electronic copy of their approved thesis to the Honors Program as outlined above will receive a $25 UConn Co-op gift certificate from the Honors Program.
