Electronic Submission of Honors Theses

Graduating University Scholars and Honors Scholars may be eligible to submit their theses electronically to the institutional repository called DigitalCommons@UConn. A hard copy (with no fancy covers and double sided if possible) and signed approval form is also required by the Honors Program office by the last day of classes of the graduating semester. Students are not allowed to submit their thesis directly to Digital Commons.

To request submission to Digital Commons, email one complete file of your thesis (Word or PDF) to honors@uconn.edu along with the following required information in the body of the email.

  • full name
  • permanent e-mail address (for posting notification)
  • major
  • thesis title
  • thesis advisor
  • graduation date
  • brief abstract
  • 3-5 key words

By continuing with the submission process, you are agreeing to these terms:
I hold the copyright to this document and grant permission for posting it in the DigitalCommons@UConn institutional repository, or have the approval of the copyright holder to do so, and agree that it may be made available to the public in any format in perpetuity. I warrant that the posting of the work does not infringe any copyright, nor violate any proprietary rights, nor contain any libelous matter, nor invade the privacy of any person or third party, nor otherwise violate Repository policies.

Why use DigitalCommons at UConn?
Your thesis is a significant intellectual achievement. By placing it in our repository, you will be making it available for the world to see. Similar programs at other schools have seen high levels of use of student theses.

After graduation, whether you are applying to graduate school or for a job, your efforts will be assisted by the ability to show your thesis, located in the University's repository. And your efforts will be enhanced if you can not only show your work, but say it has been downloaded 25, or 50, or 100 times (usage statistics are available upon request). This can help you begin to establish a reputation in your chosen field.

DigitalCommons@UConn will ensure the preservation of your thesis, and guarantee that the URL for your document will never change!

What if I am submitting my work for publication elsewhere?
If you are intending to publish your thesis in a scholarly journal you should check with your faculty thesis advisor prior to submitting your thesis to Digital Commons.

The majority of publishers will allow posting of "preprints" like your thesis to an institutional repository like DigitalCommons@UConn. Check the website SHERPA to view publisher policies.

You may also choose to delay submission of your thesis to Digital Commons until after your work has been accepted for publication.
