The Honors Program at the University of Connecticut has been educating exceptional students since its inception in 1966. With approximately 1,375 students enrolled, the Honors Program is highly selective, representing only 7 % of the University of Connecticut’s undergraduate population. Upon entry to the Program, Honors students have already distinguished themselves through their academic achievements, leadership, and accomplishments in the arts, sports, community service, and other areas. Participating in the Honors Program enables students to take advantage of the diverse opportunities available at UConn, and to make the most of their collegiate years.
The Honors Program provides students with the opportunity to register for special Honors courses. There are various types of Honors courses, including interdisciplinary courses designed specially for Honors students to fulfill general education requirements; more intensive versions of courses offered to all university students; and discussion sections attached to regular lectures. In each case, Honors courses do not necessarily involve more work; rather, they offer greater intellectual rigor, more opportunities for active and participatory learning, and the chance to study with other highly-motivated and intellectually-engaged students.
