Sophomore Honors was designed to encourage Honors students to fully participate in the Honors Program academically, culturally, and socially. During the first and second years, Honors students work toward the requirements of Sophomore Honors through engaging in Honors coursework and getting involved in the Honors community.  To earn Sophomore Honors, students participate in Honors Events, including seminars, conferences, concerts, performances, or exhibitions, which are sponsored by the Program. Attendance at an Honors Thesis Preparation Workshop is also required.

Students who fulfill the requirements for Sophomore Honors and complete an application are recognized at the annual Fall Honors Ceremony, where they receive a personalized certificate. The achievement is also noted on recipients’ transcripts.

    • Requirements

Students with advanced credits through AP exams or the UConn Early College Experience Program can still use their first four semesters on campus to meet the requirements for the Sophomore Honors Certificate. AP and Co-op credits as well as credits taken at other institutions may not be used toward the Sophomore Honors Certificate requirements.

Honors credits used toward the Sophomore Honors Certificate may not be used to fulfill the Honors credit requirements for graduation as an Honors Scholar.
