Yes. There is a textbook, and there are graded assignments associated with this course. You will recieve 3 Honors credits for enrolling in INTD 291 and additional Honors credits for enrolling in INTD 298 during Fall semester 2008.
The course will cover the following topics:
- Leadership theory, especially as it applies to peer leadership
- Group facilitation techniques
- College student issues related to the transition into the first year
- Honors program information and how to help students understand the requirements and opportunities in the Honors Program
This course prepares you to co-facilitate a section of INTD 198 with an Honors Faculty Fellow and INTD 291 classmates. You will enroll in INTD 298 during Fall semester 2008, which is a class you take to help you manage the facilitation process.
Registration is by permission only. If you decide you are interested in this course and in being an INTD Facilitator, you will need to fill out an application. The application has two parts:
- Your contact information and a brief statement about your reasons for wanting to be an INTD Facilitator;
- A recommendation form that one of your INTD 198 facilitators will fill out.
You can get an application from your INTD facilitators, from the Honors Office or by printing a copy of the application, which is available by clicking here. There is also a fillable version that you can fill out using your computer available by clicking here. Applications are due to the Honors Office by Monday, December 3, 2007. Selections will be made over winter break; class enrollment will occur in January. If you are selected to participate, Mrs. Marlene Coughlin will e-mail you a permission number to enroll in the class. You will need to adjust your spring schedule accordingly once you recieve the information to enroll in the course in January. I recommend that you enroll in an additional course (for example, a general education course) during fall registration that you would be willing to drop if you are selected.
