University of Connecticut Honors Program
Distinguished Alumni Award
Purpose – This award was created to recognize annually, an Honors alumnus, who has excelled in his/her line of work, or has made a significant contribution to society or academia. Additionally, the award will work to foster alumni relations, creating a stronger Honors community.
Requirements
- The alumnus should have graduated from the University of Connecticut as an honors scholar at least 15 years prior to the year of award.
- The alumnus should exhibit excellence in his/her professional life or have made a significant contribution to society or academia.
- The winner must agree to appear in person at the honors medal ceremony, held annually on the Saturday before finals week in the spring semester.
Nomination Process
- Candidates will be nominated by emailing, mailing or faxing a nomination form to the honors office. Nominees may also be identified by the nomination committee.
- The nomination committee shall be composed of two members of the honors faculty, and two members from the student run Honors Council.
- The nomination committee will identify at least five candidates by last Friday in November.
- Each candidate should be contacted to receiver their consent to be considered for the award, and to complete all information of the nomination form. The completed nomination form for each candidate should be given to the selection committee by the last Friday prior to winter break.
Selection Process
- The selection committee will be composed of different members than the nomination committee. It will be composed of three members of the honors faculty, and two current students who are members of the Honors Council.
- The selection committee will meet in January, and select a winner by the last Friday in January.
- The award must receive final approval by the Honors Board of Associate Directors.
- A profile of the award winner will appear online in the Alumni section of the honors webpage.
