Assignment of Honors Advisors and Students

Department Heads notify the Honors Program of the faculty member or staff members who will serve as Honors Advisors. Each summer, the Honors Program assigns incoming freshmen and newly admitted sophomores and juniors to advisors according to departmental instructions (e.g. alphabetical, random, etc.). CLAS and Engineering make their own assignments for incoming freshmen.

  • Advisors should share advisee assignment preference with the Honors Program if the department has multiple honors advisors. If the department has only one honors advisor, the Honors Program staff will assign students via PeopleSoft to that person as the students are accepted. (The Schools of Nursing and Education are exceptions.) A specific advisee may be requested by contacting the Honors Program.
  • Students may switch advisors, but if the department has a system of assignment in place (such as alphabetical) the new advisor must OK the request.
  • Honors advisors are the regular advisor for their honors students and they may fulfill that role for as long as the advisor, and department, wish.
  • Students who change advisors are expected to contact kate.dubois@uconn.edu.
  • Departments who change advisors are asked to contact kate.dubois@uconn.edu with the names of the outgoing and incoming advisors and the effective date.
